Blog action day: Climate Change.

Thursday, the 15th of October, is the day that bloggers decided to discuss a certain topic, all over the world. For this year, the issue is climate change. I' not going to discuss over the consequences or the causes of this effect.
I just want to state that I' m more optimistic than the past years that governments all over the world are starting to consider and take strong measures to prevent CO2 emmissions. There is a lot of work to be done and stronger legislation required, but for the first time, it is clear among people and governments that climate change is happening and is threatening mankind. The problem is here and at last, the majority of governments show initiative to do something about it.
Thus, it is very important for citizents to be environmentally aware and push their governments to take bold measures to prevent the effect of climate change, especially when it comes to confronting  strong economical interests.

Yes, he deserves it!

Barack Obama is now officially the winner of the Nobel prize for peace as he was voted among 205 candidates by the respectable members of the Nobel foundation. His name now, will appear next to other important winners of the Peace prize, like Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Ghandi and presidents Wilson and Roosevelt.
Since his election, Barack Obama truly inspired a lot of people as he  acted according to  his beliefs; the power of diplomacy, the collaboration of nations and a world without nuclear weapons. Barack Obama, surely deserves the prize, as it's been ages since an american president or a man in general inspired and supported so much hope for peace and prosperity on the planet. There is much more work to be done though.

Oops, they did it again!

The leading academic institution in FYROM, is trying to launch an encyclopedia, which totally threats the nation's fragile ethnic stability, as it is full of improprietal information about Albanians who represent about a 25% of the country's population. FYROM is widely known for it's efforts to forge history against it's neighbouring counties, like Greece and Bulgaria, as they claim to be "native Macedonians" which have a distinctive national language and ethnic origin.
Thus, the new "encyclopedia" now sparks outrage from the Albanian inhabitants of the coutry, as well as strong criticism from the U.S,Albanian, British and Bulgarian embassies. Moreover, academics from FYROM described the edition of the encyclopedia as "politically motivated" and "hastily prepared". Someone has to tell their nationalist government that this is not the way to survive...

Meeting the expectations.

President Obama is taking many steps at a time, seeming that he is trying to overcome many problems of the past, quickly. Among these steps there are decisions that make the rest of the world breathe in relief.
Such decisions are  firstly  the cancellation of the missile instalment in the Chech Republic and Poland, which prevented a new cold war climate between the U.S and Russia and secondly, the initiative that Barack Obama shows towards the confrontation of climate change.
The U.S due to the existance of this president, shows a "prettier" and much more trustful face to the rest of the world. However, people  surely expect much more from him, like the ending of war in iraq...

An important interview

Last Sunday, Mr. Bozidar Dimitrov minister of the Bulgarian government gave an interview to the greek newspaper "proto thema" (www.protothema.gr), where the clearly stated that "Alexander the Great was Greek and Skopians (the inhabitants of FYROM) are Bulgarians".
Moreover, he suggested that the government of FYROM should stop forging history. Since 2003,Mr. Dimitrov wrote a book called "The 10 lies about Macedonism" which enumerates the lies that Fyrom's government used to impinge the name of Macedonia and claim it from it's greek heritage.
At that time, the Bulgarian minister offered 1 million euros to any skopian historian who could prove the existance of a "macedonian" nation or state! Of course, noone ever claimed the sum, as the existance of such a nation cannot be proven historically in any way.
Thus, statements from people like Mr. Dimitrov can only support the fair Hellenic arguments concerning the macedonian name issue and show the world that history cannot really be forged to such extense without consequences.
